Girl Scout Council Receives Grant

Grant funding is an important part of the success of providing programs to the girls in our 15 county jurisdiction in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.  The Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council, Inc. received a grant from the Kingsport Community Foundation of East Tennessee Foundation.   The grant will support teaching financial literacy for girls in the Greater Kingsport area.  The Penny Project, CentsAbility and Got Money? will be presented to the girls in the community in hopes that they will gain a working knowledge of money and the financial responsibility to go along with it.  We thank the Kingsport Community Foundation of East Tennessee Foundation for their continued program   support for the Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council, Inc. For more information about the East Tennessee Foundation, visit their website www.easttennesseefoundation.org.

 Girl Scout Program Goals
The Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council provides the values-based Girl Scout program to girls in 15 counties in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Girl Scouts, girls who are ages 5-17, work in partnership with more than 2000 adult volunteer members. The Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council serves more than 6000 girls and adult volunteers annually, teaching values, leadership and diversity throughout every aspect of Girl Scouting.
The Four Program Goals serve as the foundation for all of the materials, activities and initiatives that are developed under the auspices of Girl Scouting. They are as follows:

  1. Girls will develop to their full potential.
  2. Girls will relate to others with increasing understanding, skill and respect.
  3. Girls will develop a meaningful set of values to guide their actions and to provide
a foundation for sound decision making.
