Adult Learning Modules

General Adult Learning Course Information

The Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council, Inc. has the following standards and procedures regarding adult learning for volunteers:

  1. All new troop leaders and one other adult registered with each troop are required to complete Troop Pathway Packet Module, Volunteer Orientation e-Learning Module, Child Protection and Leadership Essentials within three months (90 days) after troop leadership appointment is confirmed.

  2. All adults working with girls in a leadership position must take a Child Abuse Prevention (Child Protection) class within three months (90 days) after troop leadership appointment or take it during the Troop Pathway Packet Module.

  3. Taking your troop beyond the regular meeting place and/or going on a one-night overnight, REQUIRES the presence of at least one adult who has completed the Outdoor I training.  Outdoor II is REQUIRED to take the troop on a weekend camping trip or take experienced campers on a camping trip or travel experience lasting more than three nights.

  4. Day Camp Directors are required to complete the Council’s Summer Program Director’s Training Course and update courses.

  5. Adult learning is open to all volunteers.  All new volunteers are required to take the Volunteer Orientation e-Learning module. Girl Scouts age 14-17 may attend any courses except adult- only events.

Registration

REGISTRATION IN ADVANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL MODULES.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS FIVE WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO THE COURSE.  Adult learning registration forms are located in the Adult Learning Guide or can be downloaded from the forms section of the website.  Mail, fax or email (if no fee is required) completed forms to:

  • Additional registration forms are available from your Service Unit Manager or at the Service Center.  Photocopies are also acceptable.

  • Registrations will be confirmed in writing after the registration deadline.  If a course is full, registrants will be notified immediately.

  • Adult Learning Module dates, times and locations are subject to change only for the benefit of the registrants or facilitator.

  • Registration is essential to ensure that a facilitator is at the designated location and that the facilitator has an adequate supply of materials.

 

FEES

  • Fees for modules (if applicable) cover only partial costs of food, supplies, and rentals. Instructors and administrative costs are paid entirely by the Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council. Modules are taught by facilitators who have taken the Adult Learning Facilitator module.

  • Mail-in registrations and fee (if required) must be received in the office by five working days before the course offering date.

  • If a fee is required, payment may be made by cash, check, money order or credit card (VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS OR DISCOVER CARD).

  • Phone registrations can be accepted ONLY with a Credit Card.

  • Make checks and money orders payable to: Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council, Inc.

  • REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED ONLY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY OR WHEN REQUESTED BEFORE THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE.

  • In case of inclement weather, no refunds will be given if the module is held.

  • Should the module be cancelled, you will be eligible for credit, a refund or you may transfer your fee to the next available date.

Child Care

  • At present time childcare is not provided during modules. Check with your Service Unit Manager to see if they can help you find a solution to your needs.

In order to access the training schedules, you must have the FREE Adobe
Acrobat Reader (vers.5.0) installed on your computer. If you do not have
it you can download it from their site by clicking on the picture!!
