Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council, Inc. welcomes groups to rent any of our four facilities located in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.; Bluff City, Tennessee.; Greeneville, Tennessee.; Johnson City, Tennessee. Whether you are planning an afternoon meeting, an outdoor education program, or another event, it's likely you'll find a nearby facility to meet your needs.

You can expect to find beds but no linens, cooking utensils, and table service. Groups are responsible for their own meals. Under a Board of Director's policy, no alcohol is permitted on Appalachian Council property. For specific information on available locations and dates call 423-929-81851 or 800-428-3991.

Giddy Up Getaway I

If you love horses, your equestrian adventure awaits!  You will be transported each day to a local stable where you will learn to ride, groom, saddle and care for horses.   You will end your week by participating in a horse show.   When you are at Camp, you will get to participate in all the regular Camp activities.   You must bring boots with heels and long pants for riding.

Counselor in Training I

Do you have an interest in becoming a Camp counselor?   Then CIT is for you!  You will live in a special unit just for CIT's as you spend the first week learning counseling and leadership skills and spend the second week planning and leading activities with younger campers.   There will also be time for swimming and other traditional Camp activities.

Expand and refine skills and abilities you acquired in CIT I.   This session provides the opportunity to polish your camping and leadership skills while working with staff members and planning and implementing activities for younger campers.   You will build on your previous experience in camping, outdoor education and leadership as you prepare for a position as a Camp counselor.

Prerequisite:  Girls must be 6 years or older to attend rafting trip with their adult companion.

Note:  Female companions WILL be able to sleep in the same tents with girls.

 Come join Victoria Duncan and her love of horses.  As her silver award project, she is conducting a day camp where you can learn horse anatomy, learn about tack, make horse crafts, eat horse snacks, and sing horse songs. You may even meet a real horse.

Age Levels:  Brownies earn Giddy Up and Go Try-It and Juniors earn Horse Fan Badge

Location:  Camp Wildwood, Johnson City, TN

Cost:  $25.00 for registered Girl Scouts, and 35.00 for non-registered Girl Scouts Cost Includes:  Day Camp Patch, Try-It or Badge, Snacks and Crafts

Girls will learn how to care for their skin & bodies; make a body scrub & bath fizz bomb;discuss teen issues & deal with peer pressure; make a journal; have healthy snacks and get a yoga lesson from a local fitness instructor. The camp will culminate in a Friday evening pool party!

DATE FUN IN THE MOUNTAINS

Get sporty with it. Come and explore a wide variety of sports while earning insignia.  And have a blast at the pool party! Brownies earn the Girl Sports and Sports & Games Try-It; Juniors earn the Field Sports and Swimming Badges. Come “TRY-IT” and be a Girl Scout for the day to join in on the fun learning about the out of doors as well as some cooking and swimming.  Non – member girls completing grades 1 to 6 are eligible to apply for a waived fee for Girl Scout membership.

Age Levels:  Girl Scout Brownies & Juniors & Girl grades 1st to 6th, Brownies earn the Girl Sports and Sports & Games Try-It; Juniors earn the Field Sports and Swimming Badges.

 Location: Ralph Stout Park, July 31-August 1st and Mountain City Pool on August 2nd

Cost:  $13.50 for Members, and $23.50 for non-members* (includes membership fee, unless applied for waived membership fee)

 Cost Includes:  two Junior Badges or Brownie Try-Its per girl, snacks, program supplies, picnic and swimming fee

DATE IT'S A GIRL THING!

Girls will have healthy meals and snacks while learning about nutrition and foods.  They will learn and use manners and etiquette.  Older Girls will discuss teen issues & dealing with peer pressure.  Insight will be given on focus book issues like Take Charge, as well as growing up as a girl and building self-esteem. The camp will have a pool party and a “tea” party! 

Camp Service Project: Bring a canned food item

Location: Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church, 442 Freedom Tabernacle Lane Adkins, VA

Cost:  $45.00 for registered Girl Scout,$ 55.00 for non-members and  $10.00 per working adults

Camp Windy Knob ... Greeneville, TN.
One building, an amphitheater and a shelter have been built on this 12 1/2 acre site in Greene County, TN. The site was farmland, and is bordered by farms. Access to a horse riding stable is available. Please follow all horseback riding guidelines according to Safety Wise.

It is an activity building with tables and chairs, electric lights, and a fireplace. It will accommodate up to 100 people for day use. For sleeping purposes it will accommodate 30 people. The camp telephone is also located here and is accessible to everyone in camp. The kitchen has an electric stove, refrigerator, and work space. Buckets, shovels, rakes, brooms, mops, and assorted cooking equipment are stored here.

Camp Windy-Knob, long ramp to door, threshold negotiable by wheelchair, main floor almost barrier-free.

Camp Wildwood .... in Johnson City, TN.
Camp Wildwood is located on 12 acres of woodland held in trust by The Harris Foundation. While the land is not owned by the Girl Scouts, it will be available for their use for as long as there is an interest. We appreciate the Harris family’s generosity, which makes use of the site possible.

Camp Wildwood has an overnight tent capacity of 28 and a day use capacity of 160. There are seven platform tents located in the Ferndell area. There is a shower house with 4 showers and 6 flush toilets. There is electricity available at Ferndell, Tanglewood, White Oaks, Crestwood Shelters and in the Darlin Jones Cabin. Each shelter and the cabin are equipped with water. There are outdoor fire rings located at Ferndell, Tanglewood, White Oaks and the tent area. Macy Kitchens can be found at Ferndell and Tanglewood Shelters.

** Camping is seasonal at Camp Wildwood.**

Camp Sky-Wa-Mo ... in Bluff City, TN.
The resident campsite, since 1947, is bordered by Cherokee National Forest and some privately owned land. There are five tent units, three with shelters and two with buildings/lodges. There is also a commercial dining room/kitchen, an infirmary, a swimming pool, small lake and shower house. Administrative support buildings include Properties Manager’s home, and two cottages.

Warren Kelly Memorial for Girls "The Hut"... in Big Stone Gap, VA.
One building on a large lot in the city of Big Stone Gap. The building was built on property owned by the Warren Family by Girl Scout Lone Troops and was nearly finished when Wise County became a part of the Appalachian Council. for more on this girl scout facility see The Hut (doc)
